L’attività artistica di Gianni Dova è tra le più significative del nostro dopoguerra;
procede per affinamenti, per un crescendo introspettivo e conoscitivo ormai raro nella corsa all’effetto, alle ipotesi gratuite della moda. Dova lavora su un ritmo sperimentato, entro un’area di visioni che ha fatto autenticamente sua, al di là dell’iniziale preferenza di suggestioni surrealiste. Una visione in cui la natura si offre non tanto come luogo entro cui attingere la vita, ma piuttosto come simbolo di un possibile realizzarsi della vita nella sua pienezza. Il suo segno freme e vibra come una corda lasciata libera al vento. Segue le animazioni cromatiche, si insinua con pieghe inaspettate nelle volute delle forme. Fa pensare che forse il problema insoluto di Dova sia quello di decidere se è meglio vivere o sognare.

Gianni Dova’s artistic activity is among the most significant of our post-war period; it proceeds by refinements, by an introspective and cognitive growth that is now rare in the race for effect, for the free hypotheses of fashion. Dova works on a tested rhythm, within an area of visions that he has made authentically his own, beyond his initial preference for surrealist suggestions. A vision in which nature offers itself not so much as a place to draw life, but rather as a symbol of a possible realisation of life in its fullness. His sign quivers and vibrates like a rope let free to the wind. It follows the chromatic animations, creeps with unexpected folds into the volutes of forms. It suggests that perhaps Dova’s unsolved problem is to decide whether it is better to live or to dream.
