Dova se ne stava attento davanti alle sue opere per scoprire cosa contenessero le forme colorate che aveva disposto per istinto, seguendo talvolta un’idea musicale o l’impressione di una certa luce, di un’ombra che attraversava altre ombre. Cercava apparizioni come in un cielo dove le nuvole possono dare idee figurative. Il quadro lo teneva appeso alla parete e lo guardava a lungo finché, diceva, non si sentiva lui stesso guardato dal quadro, quando alla fine riusciva a mettere in posizione dei piccoli punti che erano gli occhi, gli occhi di tutte le forme possibili che nel quadro prendevano a vivere, gli occhi del mondo, visibili e invisibili, che il quadro stesso gli indicava. Era come se si aprissero da soli nella materia, nel colore.

Dova carefully stood in front of his works to discover what the coloured shapes he had arranged by instinct contained, sometimes following a musical idea or the impression of a certain light, of a shadow passing through other shadows. He looked for manifestations as in a sky where clouds can give figurative ideas. He would hang the painting on the wall and look at it for a long time until, he said, he himself felt himself being looked at by the painting, when he finally managed to place little dots that were the eyes, the eyes of all possible forms that came to life in the painting, the eyes of the world, visible and invisible, that the painting itself pointed out to him. It was as if they opened themselves into the material, into the colour.
